Heavyweight Weight Limit

Heavyweight is the one division with no upper weight limit, which changes how weight affects a fight. This guide sets out the exact line, the division directly below, how the weigh-in works and why weight management still creates betting angles even when nobody is making a strict ceiling. All bets are fixed-odds in rand and settle once the result is official.

Where the line sits

Heavyweight has no upper limit — it covers everything above the cruiserweight ceiling of 200 lb (90.7 kg). The division immediately below is cruiserweight, capped at that 200 lb / 90.7 kg figure, so any fighter who scales above it is, by definition, a heavyweight. Because there is no ceiling to make, heavyweights do not cut weight to qualify the way lighter fighters do; they simply weigh in above the limit. The weigh-in is held the day before the fight.

Weight, rehydration and the betting angle

In lighter divisions, fighters drain to a contracted limit at the day-before weigh-in, then rehydrate overnight, and a badly drained fighter is a recognised betting angle — depleted strength and a poor weight cut can show up in the result. At heavyweight that pressure is largely absent, but catchweights still appear when two fighters agree a contracted weight outside a division's normal limit, and a fighter carrying too much or too little can still underperform. Frequently asked questions

What is the heavyweight weight limit?

There is no upper limit. Heavyweight is everything above the cruiserweight ceiling of 200 lb (90.7 kg), so any fighter scaling above that figure competes as a heavyweight.

When do heavyweights weigh in?

The official weigh-in is held the day before the fight. Heavyweights are not cutting to a ceiling, but the day-before weigh-in still applies and confirms each fighter's scaled weight ahead of fight night.
